Description:

Diabetes Education Services (DES) at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital is a part-time service which provides outpatient education to people with diabetes and their families. DES provides education to inpatients with newly diagnosed Type 1 diabetes, gestational diabetes or diabetes and pregnancy. DES is staffed by a Diabetes Nurse Educator and a Registered Dietitian. Individual educational counselling, assessment and follow-up are provided. Group sessions are held on a variety of topics related to diabetes management. Diabetes Education is also provided to the public and to health care professionals. The Centre operates Monday to Friday during daytime hours, however, flexibility of these hours exists. Appointments can be arranged through physician referral or by contacting Diabetes Education Services. The DES program was established in 1986.
