Description:

This service is provided to assist both inpatients and outpatients with the greatest focus found in the Emergency Room and Intensive Care Unit.  Although there are regular department operating hours, this service is provided 24/7.  The work may involve the full range of expected client services from managing airways and ensuring dynamic lung and heart function during incidents that are potentially fatal and include the need to educate and assist clients to gain control their illness. Specific services provided include aerosol therapy, resuscitation, transfer by land or air of critical unstable patients, spirometry, monitoring the progress of illness, preoperative assessments, evaluation for the need for home oxygen, CPAP or BiPAP or other assistive aids, professional practice leadership for staff,  safe implementation of  infection control protocols and  pre-clinic sleep apnea screening.
