Welcome to the Lake of the Woods District Hospital, a healthcare institution with a rich history dating back to 1897. Originally known as the Rat Portage Jubilee Hospital and later as the Kenora General Hospital, our hospital has evolved over time to cater to the growing needs of the community.

On May 1, 1968, a significant milestone was achieved when the St. Joseph's Hospital and the Kenora General Hospital came together to form the Lake of the Woods District Hospital. Today, we proudly serve as Northwestern Ontario's largest hospital outside of Thunder Bay, providing crucial medical services to well over 30,000 individuals each year.

At Lake of the Woods District Hospital, we offer a comprehensive range of core programs to address various healthcare requirements. From emergency and ambulatory care to chronic care, mental health, maternal and child health, and acute care services encompassing general medicine, intensive care, and surgical services – we are committed to meeting diverse medical needs.

Our facility also manages an extensive array of specialized services, including dialysis, chemotherapy, diagnostic imaging, mammography, ultrasound, addiction counseling and detoxification, a sexual assault center, physiotherapy and rehabilitation services, ambulance services (both land and dedicated air), palliative care, and numerous education programs.

We take great pride in serving not only the residents of the City of Kenora but also the larger surrounding area, including several First Nations Communities. In acknowledgment of the communities we serve, we are dedicated to integrating traditional native healing and culture into native healthcare. Our unique Native Healer Program recognizes the spiritual dimension of aboriginal health care, reflecting our commitment to cultural inclusivity.

At Lake of the Woods District Hospital, our ultimate goal is to deliver exceptional patient care within the constraints of our resources. Our healthcare team comprises a diverse group of dedicated and skilled individuals who work collaboratively with your physician to ensure you or your loved one receives the best possible treatment and attention.

As a testament to our commitment to quality, we are proud to be a fully accredited hospital under the national standards of Accreditation Canada. We remain steadfast in our pursuit of excellence, always striving to elevate the standard of care we provide to our valued patients and the community we serve.
