Kenora is unique!
Lake of the Woods District Hospital is one of only a small handful of hospitals in North America that is accessible by water. There aren't many places where a person could boat to get groceries, go to the bank, the farmer’s market, meet friends for lunch and, when needed, quickly access the hospital directly from the water! Lake of the Woods District Hospital and the hospitals which came before it in Kenora, have sat on a spectacular waterfront location on historic Tunnel Island for 100+ years.
Access from the lake when you need it most
The Lake of the Woods District Hospital Emergency Use Dock is located very close to our hospital. Should you need to access this dock, first dock your boat safely and do not move the injured or sick person if possible. Please wait for trained first responders to avoid further injuries. To access EMS services, simply pick up the receiver in the telephone box located near the dock. You will be automatically connected & an ambulance will be dispatched to the dock to assist those in need.
Boat to work!
Hospital non-emergency docks also allow staff who reside on the lake in the summer the unique opportunity to boat directly to work (a definite advantage when recruiting!). These docks also offer a peaceful spot for staff to eat lunch or take a break, they are located down the steps on the west side of the hospital.
Hospital Grounds
Lake of the Woods District Hospital and the hospitals that came before have all been located on shores of beautiful Lake of the Woods. Our St. Joseph grounds, located just steps from the hospital, offer a beautiful waterfront, park-like setting that is enjoyed by both hospital staff and the community at various events.
