A creative partnership between Lake of the Woods District Hospital and Migisi Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centre, resulted in the availability of 10 new residential treatment beds opening in Northwestern Ontario in the fall of 2026. This expansion increased Migisi's capacity from 14 to 24 beds (located at Wauzhushk Onigum Nation) with access prioritized for members of the 49 First Nation communities represented by Nishnawbe Aski Nation.
The project was made possible through a $1.06 million investment from Ontario Health's Addictions Recovery Fund, awarded to LWDH to support the capital expansion and increase access to bed-based addictions services in our region.
This expansion strengthens LWDH’s established continuum of care that supports individuals at every stage of their recovery journey. Services under the LWDH umbrella in 2026 include the Rapid Access to Addiction Medicine (RAAM) Clinic in downtown Kenora, Morningstar Centre withdrawal management services, the partnership with Migisi Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centre's residential treatment program, recovery housing opportunities with Del-Art Recovery Home, and a vast slate of outpatient mental health and addictions programs. Together, these services provide a pathway of care to support individuals through every stage of their recovery journey.
